The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a global  organization, composed of National Committee bodies, that prepares and  publishes international standards for electrical, electronic and related  technologies.  IEC's standards are a component of the World Trade  Organization's Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).  These  serve as a basis for national standardization and as references when  drafting international tenders and contracts, facilitating world trade  by removing technical barriers to trade, leading to new markets and   
economic growth.

The International Commission on Illumination - abbreviated as CIE from  the French Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage - is an  international organization devoted to cooperation and exchange of  information among its member countries on all matters relating to the  science and art of lighting. The CIE develops basic standards and  procedures of metrology, provides guidance in the application of  principles and procedures in the development of international and  national standards, and prepares and publishes standards, reports and  other publications concerned with all matters relating to science,  technology and art in the fields of light and lighting.
